Job posting: Healthy Bays Network communications & outreach coordinator


About Us:


The Healthy Bays Network is a community-driven alliance of organizations and individuals with a shared vision for sustainable coastal communities and healthy bays free of open-net pen aquaculture in Nova Scotia.


Your Focus:


For this contract, you will be responsible for the development, implementation and assessment of a multi-component communications and outreach plan for the Healthy Bays Network coordinated with parallel communications activities in HBN member organizations.


Key Responsibilities:


Developing and executing, in consultation with the HBN Steering Committee, an external communications and outreach plan to include but not limited to:

 

  • support for HBN volunteers in development and organization of campaign event / webinar series to include communications materials;

  • organization of meetings with key MLAs;

  • updated HBN website and social media presence (releases and social media content);

  • updated external supporter contact list and outreach strategy;

  • development of a HBN monthly newsletter; and

  • communication with external ENGOs within NS, the Maritimes elsewhere in Canada and international.

Developing and executing, in consultation with the HBN Steering Committee, an internal communications plan to include but not limited to:


  • updated internal support contact list;

  • monthly updates to the HBN Google Drive;

  • organization and planning for an in-person HBN summer strategy session; and

  • a brief final report to assess effectiveness/lessons learned from external and internal communications efforts.

 

What You Bring:


  • Experience with comparable Communications initiatives or campaigns in either a professional or volunteer capacity;

  • Experience with advocacy and campaign-style communications;

  • Education or equivalent experience in producing multi-media Communications such as plans, media releases, web content and social media posts;

  • Experience in event planning and post-event evaluation;

  • Familiarity with coastal communities, local fisheries, aquaculture, issues of equitable access to marine resources and an awareness of Indigenous fishing rights;

  • Strong communications skills both oral and written;

  • Project management skills to develop Communications Plan components;

  • Organizational and priority-setting skills;

  • Ability to work with volunteers as part of a team to effectively manage multiple tasks and use time effectively;

  • Competence in Google Suite and/or Office 365 and web-based platforms; and,

  • Availability to work on the occasional weekend/evening and willingness to travel within Nova Scotia

Terms of Employment:


Six-month contract valued at $17,000, plus a $3,000 travel allowance included, May to October 2024. (Payment schedule to be developed). Benefits not included.
